Why South India hates hindi?

Hindi is not just a language but the thread which binds a nation. It may be that in some places we love it and in some we do not find it's lovers.
The question why people from South India do not want Hindi to be used anywhere in their state not even on metro sign boards.

Before going into the details of Anti- Hindi movement of south here we would like to inform you that the first Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha was started in South India itself by the great Gandhian philosopher Annie Besant in 1918 and is located at Thanikachalam Road, T. Nagar, Chennai.

The institute has been recognized by the government of India as the "Institute of National Importance" and the first Hindi class was taken by Devdas Gandhi, son of Mahatama Gandhi.

The confusion here is does South India hates Hindi or it is just a movement to keep local languages alive. We live in democracy and forcing people to accept any one language over other is by no way a right method to unite India.

The history of Anti Hindi Imposition dates back to the year 1937 during the rule of congress under the leadership C. Rahagopalachari who asked schools to compulsorily teach Hindi in all schools. E. V. Ramasamy (Periyar) and the opposition Justice Party (later Dravidar Kazhagam) immediately opposed the move and started Dharnas and processions against Hindi.

After congress government resigned from the government, the then British Governor of Madras Lord Erskine withdrew the order of mandatory teaching of Hindi in 1940 and the opposition has won the movement within just a year of launch of the movement.

It became a movement of Self Respect and was lead by Periyar himself along with Justice Party.

The current movement started when Metro sign boards had Hindi Language inscribed on them. People started a twitter movement opposing the use of Hindi in  any kind of government sign boards.
